process

Judy’s transition from limited edition relief prints with inkless intaglio to one of a kind configurations on wood was a natural progression due to her affinity for working on hard flat surfaces. Birch and maple plywood are used for geometric and asymmetric dimensional configurations which are heavily gessoed front, back and sides to seal the wood and prevent any loss of color intensity. Some paintings float out from the wall with hardware corners.

Judy uses a number of printmaking techniques such as scratching with etching tools and rubbing with soft cloths. The image is painted with oil pigment and extended to all sides. Acrylic is used as an overlay of the oil paint. When fully dry, the work is varnished with a satin archival spray.
